This novel starts out on the morning of Diana's seventeenth birthday where the life as she knew it is about to change. She finds out that her father she has known all her life is not her biological father and that there are more secrets to her family than she knew about.
This novel has many elements to it, mystery surrounding the origin of Diana's birth and family, a crazy, lying, scheming somewhat schizo mother, kidnapping, amnesia, mysteries galore, and much much more. Almost so much that we got a little confused at some points.
Between Heartbeats defiantly has a lot of potential and was a very interesting read with a good plot to it, but the sub plots did become a little jumpy and distracting as they were placed sporadically about and it seemed to jump around from main plot to sub plot quite often which caused us to have to reread to make sure we didn't miss anything.
All in all, this was a great start, and we would recommend to anyone looking for a good read about a heroine who is battling her way through a big life change and learning about love, family and finding forgiveness. It's well suited for teenager's and filled with plenty of emotion, heartache, drama and most importantly, hope.
